Tom Stenzel had a long and illustrious career with Levi Strauss in Detroit, Chicago and San Francisco. In 2012, he and his wife Rosylyn decided to take a leap of faith and open their own store in their hometown of Lafayette. Venture Quality Goods is a family-run “community center” of high-quality clothing and handiworks from local artisans. They sell Patagonia, Toad & Co, AG Jeans, SeaVees shoes, Marine Layer, Vuori, Carve Designs, Johnnie-O and Katin Surf Apparel, to name a few brands that are hard to get, sustainably crafted and classic California styles.

The store has sponsored a holiday party, a yoga and salad event, “Boots and Brunch,” and other community gatherings. The three vintage surf boards that hang on the wall are on loan from a local collector-customer whose garage outgrew his hobby! This store is truly owned and operated by “our neighbors” – in every sense of the word. Check out their new location (2024) with larger retail space and many more excellently crafted and high quality
