As one of the only privately owned and run coffee shops in Lafayette, Papillon has been an anchor in Fiesta Square for over 30 years. Old-timers may remember Cynthia, who first opened the coffee shop in 1990, or Tom and Brenda who have just recently retired. In 2020, Betty Chuluunbaatar and Sam Sukhbaatar answered the call to carry on our town’s special tradition. “I am a coffee lover and owning a coffee business was my dream,” says Betty who nonetheless had a long and successful career at an international shipping company. Originally from Mongolia, the family, including three kids, now live in Lafayette – they can even walk to work!

Papillon has a large and loyal customer base who come in for the many brews of “Lauren’s Blend” coffee but also enjoy pastries, sandwiches, boba tea or smoothies. It is a lovely place to hang out and meet a friend.
